Archbishop Desmond Tutu visits Dublin

I was deligthed to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu in our Dublin Mansion House.   As a former member of the Anti Apartheid Movement it was a great thrill to meet a man who upheld the principles of justice and continues to do that work to this day.

Mary Freehill condemns Minister Andrews for turning his back on Rathmines Youth

I tabled a motion  requesting a meeting with Minister Andrews back last  June to discuss funding for Rathmines Youth Service.  Minister ignored our request to meet him and has now refused funding for a Youth Service.    This is an area that has a considerble number of youths at risk, there are no public sports facilities in the area, only private ones, so unless these young people have a Youth Leader to take them on outings and introduce them to more consturctive activities e.g sport, drama etc.   they run the risk of getting into trouble.

This is a very short sighted attitude on the part of Government and Minister Andrews, the absence of such a service seriously risks diminishing their life's potential.
